Disha and Mayank are getting married

and both families are waiting for you.

The wedding week

Day 1 · Thursday · November

Mehendi

  1. 8:00 pm

    Thursday, 19 November

    Symphony Grand, New Delhi

    What happens at the Mehendi?

Artists draw henna on the bride’s hands and feet — it takes hours, so the party happens around her: the dholki, the women of the family singing boliyan and old wedding songs, dancing, snacks and a lot of advice. Guests can have a small design done too.

    Moments worth being there for

    • The dholki and the boliyan — join in
    • The bride’s mehendi, finished and shown off
    • Finding the groom’s name hidden in her design

    Good to know

    • Short sleeves help if you want mehendi; it needs an hour or two to dry untouched.
    • Bright colours — greens, marigold and mustard; lehriya and mirror-work are perfect.

    An afternoon into the evening

Day 2 · Friday · November

Sangeet

  1. 8:00 pm

    Friday, 20 November

    Seven Seas Hotel, New Delhi

    What happens at the Sangeet?

The night both families perform for each other — rehearsed dances, songs, a few speeches and a lot of teasing — and then the floor opens to everyone. It is the most relaxed evening of the wedding, and the one people remember.

    Moments worth being there for

    • Each family’s performance
    • The couple’s own dance
    • When the DJ opens the floor

    Good to know

    • Glam is the brief — and shoes you can dance in.
    • Want a song played? Request it from the invitation — it goes straight to the DJ.

From 8 pm, late into the night

Day 3 · Saturday · November

Haldi

  1. 11:00 am

    Saturday, 21 November

    Seven Seas Hotel, New Delhi

    What happens at the Haldi?

Family smear a paste of turmeric, sandalwood and oils on the bride or groom — for blessing, for luck and for the glow. It is messy, loud and joyful, and you will very likely get some on you too.

    Moments worth being there for

    • The elders applying the first haldi
    • Everyone else joining in
    • For the bride: her chooda (the red bangles from her mama) and the kaleere tied to them

    Good to know

    • Our haldi is in shades of pink — in something you do not mind staining, because turmeric does not wash out.
    • Morning, and often outdoors: water, sunglasses, flat shoes.

About 2–3 hours, in the morning

Day 3 · Saturday · November

Baraat

  1. 7:00 pm

    Saturday, 21 November

    Seven Seas Hotel, New Delhi

    What happens at the Baraat?

The groom’s procession to the wedding — on a horse or in a car, behind a dhol and a band, with his family and friends dancing the whole way. At the gate, the bride’s family welcome them with the milni, where relatives of the two sides embrace and garland each other. The jai mala follows.

    Moments worth being there for

    • The sehra bandi at home — the groom’s sehra tied by his sisters and bhabhis
    • Ghodi chadhna — the groom mounting the mare
    • The milni at the gate
    • Dancing in through the gate

    Good to know

    • Groom’s side: be at the starting point on time — the muhurat waits for no one, and a long dance is the usual reason it is missed.
    • Comfortable shoes. You will be walking and dancing.

About 1–2 hours, procession to milni

Day 3 · Saturday · November

Jai Mala

  1. 9:30 pm

    Saturday, 21 November

    Seven Seas Hotel, New Delhi

What happens at the Jai Mala?

First the baraat arrives at the gate and the bride’s family receive it with the milni: the relatives of the two sides, pair by pair (fathers, mamas, chachas), embrace and garland each other, often with a little shagun. Then the bride and the groom garland each other on stage — the first moment of the wedding they share in front of everyone. Each side tries to make it hard: the groom’s friends lift him out of reach, the bride’s cousins lift her higher still, and the whole hall cheers whoever wins. Then photographs with the couple, family by family.

    Moments worth being there for

    • The milni at the gate, as the baraat arrives
    • The bride’s entry
    • The garlands, and the lifting
    • Photographs on stage with the couple

    Good to know

    • Bride’s side: be at the gate before the baraat arrives — the milni needs our family there to receive them.
    • Stand close to the stage for the garlands — it is over in a minute, and it is the picture everyone wants.
    • Photographs go family by family. Wait to be called up rather than all at once.
    • Dinner is usually open by now. Eat before the pheras — they run past midnight.

About an hour, garlands to photographs

Day 3 · Saturday · November

Phere

  1. 12 am

    Night of Saturday, 21 November

    Seven Seas Hotel, New Delhi

    What happens at the Phere?

The wedding itself, at the mandap around a sacred fire, led by the pandit in Sanskrit. The bride’s parents give her hand (kanyadaan), the couple’s garments are tied together (gathbandhan), and they walk around the fire seven times — the seven pheras, one vow each. It ends with sindoor and the mangalsutra, and later the vidaai, the bride’s farewell to her family.

    Moments worth being there for

    • Kanyadaan
    • The seven pheras
    • Sindoor and mangalsutra
    • The vidaai, at the very end

    Good to know

    • The time is set by the muhurat, which can be late at night. It is long, and nobody minds if you step out for dinner or chai and come back for the pheras.
    • Shoes off near the mandap.
    • Fire smoke can be heavy — sit further back if it bothers you.
    • Avoid wearing white or black, and leave red to the bride.

2–4 hours, sometimes into the early morning

Saptapadi

Seven rounds, seven vows

With each round of the fire, one vow. Follow along as they walk.

  1. 1Nourishment

We will provide for each other and for our home, and share every meal we are given.

  2. 2Strength

We will grow strong together in body, mind and spirit, and hold each other up through every hardship.

  3. 3Prosperity

We will earn honestly, spend wisely and build our prosperity side by side.

  4. 4Happiness and family

We will seek joy and harmony together, and love each other's families as our own.

  5. 5Children

We will cherish the children we are blessed with, and raise them with love and good values.

  6. 6Health and the seasons

We will care for each other's health, and walk together through every season of life.

  7. 7Friendship

We will be friends for life, true and loyal companions, in this life and beyond.

Our story

How we got here

Disha and Mayank standing back to back, laughing

10 January 2026

The first meeting

Two families thought this might be a good idea. On the 10th of January the two of us met for the first time — and agreed with them.

30 March 2026

The roka

Both families made it official: the first blessing, the first box of mithai, and the first of a great many family photographs.

19 – 21 November 2026

Three days, all of you

The mehendi, the sangeet, the haldi, the baraat and the pheras — with the people who brought us here.

The bride

Disha

A few lines about her, in the couple’s own words: what she does, what she laughs at, what she will be doing at the sangeet when she should be getting ready.

The groom

Mayank

A few lines about him, in the couple’s own words: the engineer who built the invitation you are reading, and who has opinions about the font.
